February 2026 Flood Event at Tobermorey Station
In February 2026, an extraordinary flood event occurred at Tobermorey Station following significant rainfall across the region.
During the month we recorded 255mm of rain at the homestead, while the southern end of the station received more than 600mm. This widespread rainfall caused major flooding through the district and significant damage across parts of our paddocks. Heavy rain across the upper catchment also caused large flows through the Georgina River system.
As the floodwaters rose, there were real concerns that water could overtop our levee bank protecting the compound. Even more worrying were several large cracks that appeared on the northern side of the levee, raising fears it may fail under the pressure of the floodwaters. Fortunately, despite the immense volume of water moving through the area, the levee bank held.
With river levels continuing to rise and uncertainty around the stability of the levee, we made the difficult decision on Friday 27 February to evacuate to our neighbouring property, Manners Creek Station, until conditions improved.
While the flood caused widespread damage across parts of the station, we are grateful that the homestead compound and campground remained protected. As floodwaters begin to recede, our focus has turned to assessing damage and beginning the long recovery process.
We would like to reassure our travellers that the campground is safe and will be ready to welcome visitors again as soon as the roads reopen and river levels along the Georgina River fall to safe levels.
