The summer (and hopefully wet) season has begun here at Tobermorey Station Roadhouse & Caravan Park.  It is that time of year when the temperatures rise, and the tourist numbers drop; when cattle stations across the North of Australia send their staff on leave and get their stores and station in order ready to be cut off from their closest centres by flooding rivers and crossings.

With the temperatures north of 40 degrees most days and the likelihood of rain becoming stronger as the days get hotter, travel across unsealed roads like the Plenty & Donohue highways comes with more risk and as such we see very few people travelling over these months.

The Tobermorey Station Roadhouse & Caravan Park will close over the summer wet season shutting on Saturday 25th of November 2023.  This means that the accommodation, store and fuel will all CLOSED.

The campgrounds, store and fuel will reopen on Friday, 1 March 2024 and our cabin and room accommodation reopen on Monday, 1 April 2024.  You can book all your 2024 accommodation via our website by clicking on one of the ‘Book Now’ buttons.

If you are a corporate customer or have special service requirements and require accommodation or fuel from us during the summer season you will need to pre-arrange this by calling the Station well in advance.  Any service during the closure season will incur a 20% surcharge.

If you are planning to travel over our closure period, please take some time to plan your stops carefully.  Listed below are some helpful and important considerations for travel:

  • Jervois Station will be closed at the same time as Tobermorey Station.  There will not be fuel available at Jervois Station during their summer closure.
  • The Urandangi Pub – has been demolished and there is no fuel or store available in the township of Urandangi.
  • Fuel is only available at Harts Range Store on weekdays during the summer.
  • Boulia Roadhouse (Donohue Highway) and Gemtree Caravan Park (Plenty Highway) will be the only fuel stops open during the summer months on these roads.
  • It is highly recommended that anyone travelling these roads travel with additional fuel in suitable transport containers.
  • The wet season generally affects the Tobermorey area around Jan/Feb/Mar each year.  The Georgina River (Qld) will often cut off access/egress to QLD from the Plenty highway & Urandangi Border Road for 4 – 8 weeks.

We recommend that if you are travelling between Alice Springs and Boulia/Mount Isa that you check road conditions on Council and Govt websites and call ahead to make sure that you can get through to your destination before you travel.
